Puppies require alot of energy from their food, yet their digestive systems are not able to hold large amounts of food, so food quality is important. Choosing a dog food that is specifically formulated for puppies is a good idea. It is important to follow recommendations and directions on the labels, and to purchase a quality complete food.

Many people choose to combine wet and dry food.
Dry food has advantages in helping keep teeth clean. Clean fresh water should always be available. Choose a quality brand that provides complete balanced nutrition.
Wet food should not be left out all day, any food that is left after half an hour should be discarded.
Three meals a day is good for puppies under 4 months of age, after 4 months switch to twice a day feeding.
People-food should be avoided, and remember that chocolate is very dangerous for dogs and should never be left out where a dog can get at it.
Puppies go through teething pains and need to chew as they lose baby teeth and new teeth come in. This may even make it hard for the puppy to eat at times… this is normal but if it persists it is a good idea to get a veterinarian to look at the puppy.
After the puppy gets to be about a year old it is time to slowly switch to an adult formula, mixing for a week or so for the dog’s system to get used to the change.
