Puppies require alot of energy from their food, yet their digestive systems are not able to hold large amounts of food, so food quality is important. Choosing a dog food that is specifically formulated for puppies is a good idea. It is important to follow recommendations and directions on the labels, and to purchase a quality complete food.

Many people choose to combine wet and dry food.

Dry food has advantages in helping keep teeth clean. Clean fresh water should always be available. Choose a quality brand that provides complete balanced nutrition.

Wet food should not be left out all day, any food that is left after half an hour should be discarded.

Three meals a day is good for puppies under 4 months of age, after 4 months switch to twice a day feeding.

People-food should be avoided, and remember that chocolate is very dangerous for dogs and should never be left out where a dog can get at it.

Puppies go through teething pains and need to chew as they lose baby teeth and new teeth come in. This may even make it hard for the puppy to eat at times… this is normal but if it persists it is a good idea to get a veterinarian to look at the puppy.

After the puppy gets to be about a year old it is time to slowly switch to an adult formula, mixing for a week or so for the dog’s system to get used to the change.

The wrinkly little pug is one of those awww so cute kind of dogs with the face everyone and it’s mom can love. The baby pug is a little bundle of wrinkly joy. Pugs are a toy breed, being small in size but they are sturdy and strong for toys. Their distinctive bulging bulby eyes along with a toothy grinned underbite really make a pug a favorite. The pug originated in China and have been a dog of royalty. Pugs are noted for their intelligence and obediance, and they are known as being very attached to their owners, craving attention and wanting to be beside their owner as much as possible.

Pugs are super cute, but they often need more diligent care when compared to many other breeds. They are sensitive to temperature changes and special care must be paid to their feeding and veterinary care, as they can be prone to many problems if not taken care of. The pug is a wonderful companion and their playfulness and loyalty along with a loving sociable disposition make them a wonderful little dog.

The Afghan Hound is a beautiful dog with long flowing coat. The Afghan name comes from their original ancestral home of the cold mountains of Afghanistan. They were bred to be hunting dogs and are known to have keen eyesight to aid them in identifying prey from long distances and that coupled with their high speed make them very skilled hunters.

Afghans are often noted as being a tad aloof and strong minded when it comes to learning to obey orders (or deciding whether they want to acknowledge hearing the orders).

The Afghans long flowing coat requires attention to maintain with proper brushing, and owners often choose to shave their afghans in the warm summer months to aid in maintenance and for more comfort for the dog.

Afghan hounds have an interesting distinction of being considered as an ancient breed of dog, which means that they are more closely related to the common ancestry of wolves than most breeds, and is considered to date back thousands of years.

Basset Hounds are so distinctive and cute, try walking down the sidewalk with your basset hound on the leash beside you and you are sure to get looks. Long droopy ears and expressive faces and the long lowrider body make them an big hit. They are bred to be scent dogs, and their sense of smell is a strong point of the breed. The Basset Hound is low to the ground but they are strong muscular dogs, standing an average of a foot to a foot and a half tall but weighing in at over 50 lbs.

Basset Hounds are notoriously difficult to train, and require special patience as they tend to forget their lessons.

Jack Russells are awesome little dogs. They were originally bred as working dogs, with strong chests and strong legs, digging and burrowing come natural to the little Jack Russell. Most Jack Russells are smart as a whip, and are known as being very playful and can get very single minded when it comes to following their noses.

Jack Russells are often known to be big for their britches, and don’t realize their small size when it comes to bravery and challenging larger dogs, so care must be taken. Their distinctive white dog with a brown head look makes many of them instantly recognizable.

Glucosamine is touted as a natural supplement for joint relief for dogs, people and other animals too. It is actually derived from the shells of crustaceans (such as lobsters, crabs, clams, mussels). Glucosamine is found naturally in cartilage and synovial (joint capsule) fluid.

Glucosamine sulfate (GLS) or glucosamine hydrochloride are given as a supplement or included in dog food and it is said to be a good preventative treatment for arthritis in dogs. Glucosamine Sulfate has been shown to have effect in studies, so it is the one often recommended, although scientists have said that there should be similar results from Glucosamine Hydrochloride, but there is still some debate on the issue.

Glucosamine is considered an alternative to drugs such as nsaid and is widely accepted by many veterinarians. Many dog owners report that their dogs seem much more comfortable and active when supplementing with glucosamine, and many studies have shown safety in supplementing with glucosamine.
